Valentine's Day Lollipop Covers

My kids LOVE making things for their classmates for almost any and all holidays that come up and I've never discouraged them from wanting to give their classmates something special. This year it's a bit crazy because my middle child is in 6th grade and the 6th grade teachers have a very strict policy about fairness. If I make something for one I have to make it for all. Luckily my son's 6th grade is pretty small compared to last year. There are about sixty 6th grade students. My daughter is in 4th grade and she gives out treats to her class only. Both of my awesome kids love to give treats to other teachers, the principal and vice principal and other friends. We have been doing well with making 100 of whatever it is we decide to make. All of this has led us to keep Valentine's Day treats sweet & simple. This year we made lollipop covers. The cover is a simple 3" x 6" piece of paper folded at 2.75 and 3.25 to fit over the lollipop (Sweet tarts lollipops are cute and yummy). They are taped at the bottom to keep in place. After cutting and scoring each rectangle I added a tag that reads: Happy Valentine's Day from Lizzie that I printed out and cut 2x2". On the other side is a simple 2" heart with a kitten on top. We printed the kitten out and glued that on. That's all there is to it. So easy and quick to make!

Holiday themed Thank You card

I received my *NEW* Close to My Heart 2014 Spring/Summer Idea Books on Christmas Eve this year and since I am mailing them out to all my customers, so close to Christmas I wanted to send a holiday themed Thank You card with each Idea Book!

I recently was able to host a Scotch Tape Expressions House Party (thank you houseparty.com!!) and during the party I made a couple of Christmas Cards. One of them much like the one pictured!! I love candy canes and peppermint themes so this was an easy card to make with red tape and a white card. To make it pop I added the glitter ribbon stripes!

Add a Thank You for your Order (Close to My Heart stamp) tag and it's perfect!!

If you'd like to get your hands on a copy of the NEW Idea Book send me a message!! The current ones are still available as well and are valid through January 31, 2014! Also BIG NEWS for Idea Books is that starting February 1st you will have the option to add an Idea Book to your order on my site: www.carolynmendoza.ctmh.com for just $3.95 each! This is total awesomeness!!!

Mojo Monday 300 Celebration

Hello! Are you enjoying your summer? I can't believe one whole month of summer (in Texas "summer" begins after the last day of school) is gone for us!! I got my month of "relaxing" out of the way and now I am ready to get back into crafting! July is FULL of birthdays in my family. It used to be just me and my mom but now we also celebrate my oldest son, my niece and my nephew, plus a handful of close friends.

Crafting for so many purple loving women/girls I immediately went through my paper stash and searched for purple floral paper. Can you believe I didn't have anything on hand?!?! With the 4th of July holiday this week I did not have time to go out and buy anything so I put my thinking cap on and made my own!! You'll see my creation in the card I am about to show you. I am entering this card in the Mojo Monday 300 Celebration as well.

If you haven't heard of Mojo Monday you should really check it out. Each week a talented crafter offers a sketch for us all to use in a craft of our own. It is so much fun to see what they come up with for our sketch and equally fun checking out all the crafts that are created from this sketch. Not to mention it's an awesome way to start off the crafting week!!

Now to check out my birthday card...

Here's the sketch for Mojo Monday #300
Sketch design by: Julee Tilman

I only used my Cricut for a few items, the rest were cut using my paper trimmer and/or scissors. My card is a basic 4.25x5.50" sized card. Here are the shapes I used and their dimensions.

Purple rectangle - 5x3"
Black floral banner - 2.5x4.5" cut using Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge from Close to My Heart
White Square with black ink - 2.5"
White Circle with gypsy ink - 2.25" <----I think this could have been smaller.
White Flower with gypsy ink - 3" cut using Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge from Close to My Heart
Smaller purple banner pieces were cut by hand.

Black and Gypsy Ink both from Close to My Heart.

To make the square and circle pieces I used my Cuttlebug and ink from Close to My Heart. Using the ink pad I applied ink directly to the top of the folder I wanted to use. I only inked the section I planned on using. After applying the ink I put the paper on the bottom of the folder, closed the folder, ran it through the cuttlebug and had these beautifully inked and embossed pieces to work with. Using the Close to My Heart ink pads made it SO EASY to apply the ink! After I finished with the folders I rinsed them with water and allowed them to dry. This was an awesome tip I learned from watching Anna Griffin do it on HSN when she was showing her Cuttlebug & folders!! Finally put it to use with AMAZING results! Thanks Anna!

Calendar Fun

Hello!! I have been MIA from the blogging world for a while... lots of school stuff in my house to take care of and then I just wanted two weeks of doing nothing while I recuperated from all that school stuff. I didn't get the two weeks of doing nothing and in fact I have gotten a lot done!! I'm just not good at doing nothing I guess. Haha!!

Today I have a Calendar to share with you all. If you frequent blogs, pinterest or other crafty sites you may have seen something similar to my Calendar. I've seen cute shadow box calendars here and there but the design I used is one I thought of myself. I didn't use a shadow box either. Here's what I did and how:

I started with a $1 frame and some wood planks from Michaels. I wanted to make a Calendar that was cute, fun and useful but also sturdy enough to withstand the choas that invites itself into my craft space which is why I added the little plank to the frame.

First I covered the frame and plank with paper from Close to My Heart. I used the Chantilly paper pack to make my calendar. I used a spray adhesive on the paper then sealed with a matte spray. I'm not great with mod podge and I didn't want to practice at this moment but I know it would work in this situation too. After my paper was added I then attached the wood plank to the bottom of my frame in the center. Unfortunately I could not find planks that were the same length of my frame so if this bothers you I would suggest adding embellishments, little pearls maybe? Or going to a home improvement store and having them cut ones to fit your frame better. To attach the plank to the frame, I used tacky glue and then I used my staple gun just as back up reinforcement. The glue dried quickly and held pretty well so if you don't have a staple gun handy you could probably skip this step. I'm a power tool type of gal so I used my drill to drill holes in the top to hold my Months for the calendar. I don't expect everyone to have a drill so another solution would be to use sticky notes or repositionable glue so that you can remove months or you can just staple them or glue them on and rip off the sheets of paper each month...

I chose the picture frame for a reason - I do plan on putting a picture into my frame I just need to find the right one. Until then I went ahead and covered the front of my cardboard middle piece with some scrap paper from this Chantilly paper pack. I used my Cricut and the Close To My Heart Artiste and Art Philosophy cartridges to cut out the month tags, the blocks for the dates, the bow, and the 3D flowers at the bottom. I attached the Month tags using ribbon, one for each side so that I can just flip each month tag over when a new month rolls around. For the date I made these number blocks. On one it has a 0, 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8 on the other it's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. I had to go through 1-31 and make sure my number blocks would work for every day. The bows that can be cut from these cartridges are awesomely cute and I just love them so much!! The flowers are my favorite though. So realistic looking!!

That is my desktop calendar, I hope you all enjoy it. Thanks for visiting my blog today!! Have a great Summer :D

Color Dare #37 - Juniper

Hello, Welcome to Crafting With Carolyn!! Today I have a new challenge to participate in -- the Color My Heart - Color Dare Challenge!! Every week a Close To My Heart color is chosen and used for color inspiration!! This week's color inspiration is Juniper!! I think it is SO pretty. Love this color!!

I have been dying to craft all week but, I've been helping a friend paint her house so I haven't been home much. I'm a stay at home mom and I typically tend to do chores before crafting (a bit of clean freak in me) so I woke up early on purpose - on a Saturday - JUST to join in on this Color Dare! I told my husband who leaves at 8am to make sure I was awake before he left! Haha. I was NOT going to waste prime time to craft!! I managed to get up but then I started cleaning and I made breakfast for the kids, something I don't do too often because they're usually up before me .... and then cleaned some more ... Yeah I know .... CLEAN FREAK! I was finally able to sit down and craft after lunch! I flipped through the 2013 Spring Summer Close To My Heart Idea Book  looking for some inspiration and I found the adorable little card on the bottom of page 111 with it's little ruffles!! I love the way that card looks and wanted to make my own version of it. Here's what I came up with...

As you can see I used Juniper but I also used a sheet from the For Always paper pack. I thought this black, white and juniper combo was perfect!! I cut out my "ruffles" and flowers using the Cricut Artiste Cartridge and then realized I had the perfect opportunity to use my Anna Griffin Cuttlebug!! I haven't gotten to play with my cuttlebug much yet but, I love it already! I'm new to embossing. This cuttlebug is my first. I used one of the border folders to add this leafy pattern which I think goes perfect with the flowers on the For Always sheet.

My daughter and I have decided we want to help celebrate all the teachers/faculty/staff birthdays at our Elementary school not just the ones we have each year. They are after all, a team. We love our teachers too so it's not a hardship. Knowing we have our work cut out for us I decided to make 6 of these cards. There are two different patterns in the same style.

What do you think?? I kind of love both styles but that For Always flower is definitely trying to steal the show!! The final touches are the bling gems from the Boutique Assortment which are in the While Supplies Last section for only $1.50!! ((Ahhh! I need to go buy more before they're all gone!)) And the black glitter ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all go out and get some inspiration from the Color My Heart - Color Dare Challenges!!

Buzz and Bumble Blog Hop

Hello! Today I am participating in the Buzz and Bumble Damask Divas Blog Hop! This blog hop officially starts on April 1st so if you run into any dead ends with the links please come back later. (Thanks!!) What's a blog hop you ask? Well a blog hop is when a group of people get together and link to each other's blogs so that you go in a big circle and "hop" from blog to blog until you've seen them all. Usually each blog hop as a theme and our theme is the Buzz and Bumble paper pack from Close to My Heart.

If you've come from Lilian Yeh's blog : theleafstudio.blogspot.com you are in the right place!! If you just happened across my blog then please start from the beginning or make sure you follow through and visit everyone along the way. I promise you will not regret it! Go to:

When I first saw this paper I was like... EEeek!! Bees!!! I mean bees?? I'm not a big fan. Then I started looking at it and I thought, well this is kind of perfect for Spring isn't it?! Bees, honey, flowers!! Idea!!! I was totally excited because I thought I wouldn't be able to pull this off. This is actually my second blog post of the day, BUSY week and I ran out of time!! Hopefully there are no major mistakes ;) and if I left out any info please feel free to ask questions in the comments section. On with the hop....

I decided to make a cute birthday card. I'm not sure where it fill find it's home but that will come to me later. I pulled out the super cute Bugs & Hugs stamp set and thought the flower border stamp would be perfect for this card layout. It also allows me to add a pop of color to my card without messing up the theme. I used the bee stamp from that same set and stamped using black on the Buzz and Bumble honey comb paper to make two cute bees. I just cut them out free hand after I stamped them. The flowers I cut using the cricut and also the hexagon shape and tag at the top which I stamped Happy Birthday using the Joyful Birthday stamp set. I inked the flowers and the tag with Goldrush ink and stamped the happy birthday using cocoa ink. I used colored pencils to color in the border at the bottom. Final touches are the Opaques Mocha Adhesive Gems and I added gold glitter to the center of the flowers.

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my blog. I hope you have fun with the blog hop and are inspired to try something new!!  Now don't forget to check out Traci Williams blog along the way I hear she has something special for one lucky viewer. Happy Easter!!
